Speak to the Rock

Matthew 12:34

For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

In our@last few sermons, we have discussed the obsession with Heaven and God that wakes us from our slumber. The obsession that brings us hope so that we donft fall asleep but instead we build up our faith and keep watch keeping extra oil for our journey keeping watch, for we do not know when he will come but the bible does and our faith assures us that He will come to take we who are the bride of Christ to the room that he has prepared for us in His Fatherfs house, in heaven.

The bridegroom is obsessed in his love for us, he is desperately in love with each and every one of us and seeks for us to return to him and be at His side. He is reaching out to us with all his strength hoping that we may see his hand in our lives. But so many of us choose not to see it or acknowledge it, we are so filled with ourselves that we lose sense of the truth around us and we lose sense that our rescuer, our savior is right there in front of us. You see a drowning person is blind to all around him. He loses all sense of sight and hearing, His eyes can see but they can not see anything beyond themselves and their own situation, their ears can hear but the sounds are all jumbled in their panic. To save a drowning man you must make some sort of physical contact for them to recognize any outside stimuli. Indeed, you must force the flotation into them before they will take notice and grab onto itBBut God so desperately wants to save us that he will not give up. He will in fact go further than anyone would be expected to go. He was willing to change places with you if only you would acknowledge him believe in him and ask him to. If you would only desperately seek Him as he so desperately sought you. If only you would put your life in his hands. He was He is willing to give His life for you.

The bible say that true love is that you would give you life for a friend.

What a friend we have in Jesus

=====Music===

Are you drowning in the sea of life are you willing to give him control, Are you willing to let him die in your place. He wants to, He offers to, he did

Oh Lord Oh Lord

Ifm drowning, Ifm drowning

I canft save myself, I canft save myself

Rescue Me, Rescue me

You gave your life for me, You gave your life for me

I will give my life to you, I will give my life to you.

The bible begins

Gen 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2  Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

3  And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

Godfs first action was to speak and out of the abundance of his word and nothing else, just formless emptiness, out of the abundance of his word creation.

John

1  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2  He was with God in the beginning.

3  Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

4  In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

5  The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

Out of the abundance of his word all that has been made. All made through the Word and the word become flesh.

God spoke and it happened

Last time I left you with the image of God as painted by Michelagelo in the Sistine chapel of God reaching for man, this time we are going to look at speaking. God speaking and a much more important message is your need to speak.

God spoke and creation occurred

What is going to occur when you speak.

Let us turn to a story of Moses.

The LORD said to Moses,

8  "Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink."

9  So Moses took the staff from the Lord's presence, just as he commanded him.

10  He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, "Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?"

11  Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

12  But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them."

God spoke to Moses

Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water.

And Moses was to speak to the Rock.

But he didnft because his heart did not agree with God

The bible says

Matthew 18:19-20

I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

20  For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

Agreement is a very important thing but it is something that we often do not understand fully. Now the bible in Matthew 18 clearly leads us to seek agreement. gIf any two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you. But I have always had a problem with this passage because I think we have always been reading it too simply

Let us look at Matthew 15:8,9

8  "'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.

9  They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'"

Matthew 12:45

The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.

When we come into agreement we must first come to agreement with ourselves. Are hearts and our mouths must be in agreement.

Now, God is always in agreement with His word and so his word is always prophecy. Godfs will and his word are never in opposition. And so God is always in agreement and thus out of simply the abundance of His word out of emptiness things take form.@

Also and even more so than our hearts and lips being in agreement is that our hearts and Godfs heart are in agreement that are souls agree with our heart, our mind, and our lips. It is at this point that we are in a place to agree with others. But I will go much further and say that if you are at a point when your soul that part of God within you that spirit that was breathed into you can be in agreement with the rest over you them the presence and the promise of god are with you and you can speak to that rock and bring forth living water, that you can speak to that mountain and watch it move or crumble that you can bind or loose in heaven and earth that which you speak out.

God is telling you to speak. He is seeking agreement with you.

There are some things that you can not talk to others about, there are something that are too personal, to embarrassing, to fantastic, to crazy that you can not bring them to others. I know some of you are believing God for things that may be too big for others around you.  But it is not their faith but your faith that will move that mountain. Let me tell you that if it is Godfs will a you trust his will believe his will in your heart and body and you speak out with your lips in agreementB

Unfortunately though most of us our like Moses and we simply do not trust God enough in the bad times as well as the good and we move from his power to our own power and although we might find some change it is nothing in comparison to what could have happened. It is nothing in comparison with what He wanted to do if only you had come into agreement with him and spoken to that rock.

Many will say that they were not called to be a pastor or a prophet or and evangelist. They were not called to speak. They are not comfortable speaking. But I tell you that we are all called to speak. We are all called to agreement with God and with others. Not simply in a thought but in your heart and with your lips.

Does this sound like you?

Exodus 4:10-13

10  Moses (I) said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue."

11  The LORD said to him (you), "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD?

12  Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say."

13  But Moses(I) said, "O Lord, please send someone else to do it."

Or maybe

Jeremiah 1:6-10

6  "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."

7  But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.

8  Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.

But God responded

9        Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth.

Peter wouldnft have been my pick for the speaker at pentacost. I would have gone for Stephen. For he was a much better speaker

He trusted god much more.

But on the day of Pentecost God acted and Peter agreed and 5000 people turn to Christ through the words spoken by his lips and the spirit of god that came with it. But if peter had not agreed in his heart and with his lips nothing would have happened.

The same is true for you. It is time for you to speak it is time for you to agree. It is time for your Exodus to begin. The Exodus did not begin with the birth of Moses as it is in the book. The Exodus began when Moses spoke. In the end it was not Aaron who spoke but Moses it was his lips that brought forth what was needed to set the people free. It was Moses that parted the red Sea. It was Moses that the cloud of the presence of God@hovered over. The grace of God, the Spirit of God was with Him when he spoke when he reflected Godfs Glory.

Do you need to ask for something in your life? Are you asking something for the church? Do you want a member of you family to come to Christ?    Do you need healing? Healing for an illness? Healing for a relationship? Healing for your family? Do you need God to act in your life? Do you need help getting to the promised land. If you do you need to speak. You need to agree. You need to trust. You need God.
